Tell us about your interests and motives of coming to Japan.
I liked Japan since I was 15 years old. When I was in high school, I went to Japan for the first time on a school excursion. I started to grasp Japanese culture and the uniqueness of Japan that Korea did not offer; and my desire to live in Japan grew ever since.

When did you decide that you want to work in Japan?
When I was 22 years old.

At 24.

Why do you want work in Japan?

  • I wanted to learn about methods, ideas and high technology in Japan.
  • Lots of opportunities and challenges in my job.
  • I have always wanted to live in Japan.

  • Japanese recruitment websites for new graduates (Rikunabi, Mynavi)
  • Headhunting

What were your priorities when choosing a company?

  1. Interest in the company
  2. A company that will allow me to do various jobs
  3. A company where I can learn and further my career for my future

When attempting to get a job in Japan, what were your biggest challenges?

  • Lack of information regarding Japanese companies
  • Japanese written tests, SPI, and aptitude tests are too difficult for foreigners.

I am mainly responsible for app (iOS) and website development.

Being able to be good at what you do (in your work), enjoying what you do at work is very important to me.

What is the appealing factor/attractive feature of your current employment?
The teamwork and cooperativeness of my company is amazing; and I get to be responsible in tasks and projects that I enjoy doing too.

Tell us why working in Japan appeals to you.

  1. Everyday is a challenge!
    Working in Japan, you will definitely face different kinds of challenges every single day. As you outdistance your challenges, this itself is the pathway to growing up and this is exactly what appeals to me.
  2. Learning the traits of a Japanese company
    Working as an employee in the Japanese corporate world, I found out that the Japanese values the relationship of mutual trust .

Are there any other struggles you are facing at work in Japan? How did you manage to deal with it?
Struggles, you say?  😀

There are some unfortunate miscommunications, occasionally, and sometimes it leads to a much bigger problem when left ignored. To avoid situations like this from repeating itself, I usually make a memo.

Tell us about your job aspirations (career developments) in the future.
Making use of the technical skills I have acquired from my current company, my partners and I aim to establish a service that has never been offered to the world to this day; a service we offer that will deeply impress everyone in the future.

I am currently staying in a share house.

How did you find an accommodation when you first came to Japan?
From a community website in my native language.

How do you spend the holidays here?
I usually go out with my friends or travel.

Are there any struggles that you are experience while living in Japan?
Not that I am aware of.

Any kind words or advice for those who wish to work or live in Japan?
To anyone who loves Japan, or want to work here – Japan is a beautiful country. Whatever you are doing now, as long as you put in the best of your efforts, there is no goal you cannot reach.
